What does officer due diligence require of our directors?

Officer due diligence in New South Wales

An officer must exercise due diligence to ensure the PCBU complies with its duties. Section 27(5) sets out what due diligence includes, among them:

1. acquiring and maintaining knowledge of WHS matters;
2. understanding the operations and their hazards and risks;
3. making sure appropriate resources and processes are used;
4. making sure incidents, hazards and risks are reported and responded to;

## What it does

### Answers in a practitioner's voice

Built on a senior practitioner's knowledge base, it answers the way an experienced WHS advisor would, in Australian English. Choose your role and the same facts come back in the shape you need: coaching for an advisor, depth for a manager, the business view for an executive, criteria and evidence for an auditor.

### Sources you can open

Every answer lists the passages it drew on, each with its publisher and a link to the original where there is one, so you can read the guidance for yourself. On a desktop the sources sit beside the answer; on a phone they open as a sheet.

## From question to answer you can check.

1. ### Ask Choose your jurisdiction and ask in your own words, or start from a guided task.
2. ### Search It searches the knowledge base, and the web when a truthful answer depends on what may have changed.
3. ### Check A second pass reads each answer before you see it, and every cited section is checked against the sources.
4. ### Answer You get the answer, the passages behind it and what was checked, ready to copy or export to Word.

### Fast where it can be

A typical answer arrives in about two seconds (the median in October 2026 was 2.3). One that searches the web takes longer, around 14 seconds.

### Shaped for the reader

Choose Advisor, Manager, Executive or Auditor, and the same facts come back in the shape that reader needs.

### Think deeper when it matters

For harder questions it reads the most relevant documents whole. Slower, and it counts as two questions.

### Guided Tasks

The work practitioners do every week, from reviewing a SWMS to preparing a board paper, each starting from a practitioner's structure.

### Document Review

Attach a SWMS, JSA, procedure or report. What the document cites is kept apart from what the sources confirm.

### Citation Check

Every section an answer cites is checked against the passages it drew on. What isn't found is shown, not hidden.
